President and Chief Executive Officer
Dean was most recently the Head of Global Marketing for Johnson & Johnson's Animas Corporation within their Medical Device & Diagnostics Division. He was responsible for Business Development, New Product Development, Regional Marketing as well as local demand generation. He launched medical devices and garnered new indications for medical devices in North America as well as Europe. Earlier in his J&J tenure, Dean was the Worldwide Director of Global Strategic Marketing for the Diabetes Care Franchise. This included both Insulin Delivery and Digital Solutions (software). Prior to this position, Dean was the Head of Strategy for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals U.S. Cardiovascular Unit, a division with about $7 Billion in annual revenues. He has also held positions as the Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for McKesson's market leading healthcare software subsidiary in Atlanta, Georgia, where he developed strategy for the division and its 20+ sub-business units. Before his work in corporations, Dean had experiences with a bio-pharmaceutical start-up, medical research at Columbia University, Accenture Consulting and Deloitte Consulting's Braxton Healthcare Strategy Practice in San Francisco.
Also, through his early work in medical research & technology as a biologist, Dean has been granted three U.S. patents (either as the sole inventor or co-inventor). Dean attended Rutgers University where he received a BS in Biology and an MBA in Strategic Management as well as being on the Varsity Football Team.
Solomon Ssenyange, PhD
Dr. Solomon Ssenyange is a co-founder of the company and was the CEO from the company inception until March 2014. Dr. Ssenyange is an expert in solid-state electrochemical sensors with an emphasis in the fabrication of nitric oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) sensors. He is an inventor on patents for breath analysis of various biomarkers present in disease states.
He received his training in analytical chemistry in the laboratories of Professor Mark McDermott at the University of Alberta and conducted cardiovascular research at the St. Boniface Cardiovascular Research Center in Winnipeg, Canada. Dr. Ssenyange completed his postdoctoral studies on carbon based molecular electronics at The Ohio State University. Previous industrial experience includes the development of plating solutions and planarization modules used in the MEMs based probe cards required in semiconductor test and manufacturing.
He holds a BS in Chemistry from the University of Manitoba and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Alberta, Canada.
Chief Technology Officer
Ryan is a co-founder of the company and an experienced material scientist with a track record of developing complex high yield manufacturing processes that involve electroforming, electrochemical etch, tool development, and MEMs manufacturing. His industry roles include design, development, and project management in the semiconductor industry. At Ohio State University he researched aluminum microstructures by developing a novel electrochemical device in the laboratories of Dr. Rudolph Buchheit. This work earned him the Marcel Pourbaix Award in Corrosion Research.
He holds a MS and BS in material science and engineering from The Ohio State University.
Vice President, Engineering
Brian is a senior medical technology and biotechnology leader with 20 years of experience in Research and Development. Brian's focus throughout his career has been on developing high volume, stable, processes to achieve low cost, robust performance products in both biotechnology and medical technology companies including IBM, Caliper Life Sciences, Apieron and CellScape. Brian's responsibilities have encompassed process and equipment development, cross-functional project management and engineering management on IVD and CE-marked products. As engineering director at Apieron, Brian oversaw the commercial development of the first biosensor-based Class II IVD medical device approved by the FDA, the Insight exhaled nitric oxide analysis system. At Caliper, Brian was responsible for process development and engineering management of the microfluidic chip consumables for the co-developed Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer, one of the most successful products in the RNA quality analysis market. Brian holds several patents including one relating to the detection of fractional exhaled nitric oxide.
Brian holds a M.S. and B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

Mr. Ken Furusaki currently serves as EVP & CTO of NGK SPARK PLUGS (U.S.A.), a part of global organization of NGK SPARK PLUG CO., LTD., which holds a world leading share of spark plugs and automotive sensors for internal combustion engines and also offer a broad lineup of IC packages, cutting tools, bio ceramics and industrial ceramics, under two brand names, NGK Spark Plugs and NTK Technical Ceramics. Their global network of sales and manufacturing, and over 12,000 employees deliver value creation to the world. Mr. Furusaki was one of the key players in their successful commercialization of Oxygen Sensors and development of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells. He has also led several cross border alliances with his entrepreneurship in his mixed carrier of engineering and global marketing. Mr. Furusaki received his BS in Material Science Engineering from Osaka University Japan.

Prior to ECA, Mr. Ray Musci was the executive vice president, corporate development of Atrinsic. He has over 25 years of high tech, media, entertainment and consumer product experience. Prior to Atrinsic, Mr. Musci was founder and CEO of Bam! Entertainment, a company that publishes and distributes movie, sports and cartoon video games to a wide range of retailers. Prior to Bam!, Mr. Musci was President and CEO of the U.S. subsidiary of Infograms Entertainment, now better known as Atari. Before joining Infograms/Atari, Mr. Musci was founder, President and CEO of Ocean Of America, a publisher and distributor of entertainment software where he built Ocean of America to annual revenues of $50 million, and sold it to Infograms/Atari.

Mr. Damien Petty was part of the team that represented the founders of Skype in several transactions including the sale of Skype to eBay in 2005, the reacquisition of Skype in 2009 in partnership with a with a consortium of private equity firms, and the recent sale of Skype to Microsoft. Prior to ECA Ventures, Mr. Petty was a senior analyst in the Corporate Development department of Artisan Entertainment. He began his career as a consultant in the Strategic Consulting Practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Mr. Petty received his BS in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

Richard Zhao currently serves as General Manager of Strategy and Investment, leading the investment team of the Medical Device Division at Fosun Pharma. He has about 20 years’ experience in M&A, Business Development and Sales & Marketing Management on both global and regional levels. Prior to joining Fosun Pharma, he held various executive positions at Bayer Healthcare and Philips Healthcare, driving international business growth and expansion. Richard has been one of early explorers in the 1990’s to introduce and help multinational companies enter and operate in China through Shanghai Free Trade Zone. In addition, he also has in-depth understanding of the value of startups and innovation with his personal entrepreneur experience of establishing Lifevant Inc. Richard holds an MBA degree from CEIBS and received executive education (CPD) from the Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania.
